Catch-up with CCDC

Prepare for a wave of fresh documents, upcoming webinars, and in-person seminars brought to you by the Canadian Construction Documents Committee. Here’s a preview of what to expect.

CCDC Document Webinars

Don’t miss CCDC’s webinar on March 28 (13:00-14:00 ET) on project closeouts. You will learn best practices and processes, CCDC’s contractual requirements, and the parties’ roles and responsibilities relating to project closeout.

New documents

CCDC will be publishing four new documents on May 21. As with all CCDC documents and copyright seals, they will be available for purchase through any of CCA’s integrated partner associations. These new documents include:

  • CCDC 16 ‘Guide to Changes in the Contract’
  • CCDC 220 ‘Bid Bond’
  • CCDC 221 ‘Performance Bond’
  • CCDC 222 ‘Labour & Material Payment Bond’

In-person seminars

CCDC will be hosting a series of in-person seminars to introduce the new documents listed above as well as those released in 2023 and the new CCDC 20 ‘Guide to Construction Contract Administration,’ expected to be published in late 2024.

These seminars, held between April 29 and May 17, will be presented by CCDC authors, providing attendees with direct first-hand knowledge of the documents.

Continuing Education Credits
The seminars have been accredited by Gold Seal and are eligible for continuing professional development from several provincial architect associations, including British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador, with more pending. Fee and handout
Registration fee: $390 + tax, per person (Additional registrants from the same organization will receive a $100 discount).

Attendees will receive a handout including advanced copies of the documents being published in May as well as official copies of all the documents at the time of their publication. The registration fee represents the approximate retail value of these documents.

Program
Each seminar will dive into issues like:

  • The important concepts in the CCDC 16 changes guide, such as the CCDC philosophy of the change process, key clauses, the pricing of changes, party’s rights, and more.
  • The major revisions to CCDC bond forms (CCDC 220, 221, and 222) including the introduction of new terms, modified timelines and processes, standard forms, new provisions addressing time-sensitive issues, and more.

Also on the agenda are presentations on the forthcoming CCDC 20 ‘Guide to Construction Contract Administration’ (to be published late 2024) and the new versions of CCDC 4 ‘Unit Price Contract’, CCDC 18 ‘Civil Works Contract’ and CCDC 2MA ‘Master Agreement Between Owner and Contractor’ that were published in November 2023.
